Lynchburg Loves You - a mural for Lynchburg’s Tourism Office at the Kemper Street Amtrak Station
With the goal of this project being to welcome visitors coming into Lynchburg via the Amtrak train, I strove to create an eye-catching, and friendly design to help newcomers understand our city at a glance.
Seven hills, topped with trees and bright walking/biking paths in LTO’s Sunrise Yellow surround a small and quaint downtown. The buildings reference downtown architecture you’re probably familiar with, and the James River flows through the lower half of the piece. The letters reference LTO’s logo and are set against a darker shade of LTO’s James Blue for the sky. The heart location pin in place of the O doubles down on the “love” message, lets visitors know where they are by being right over the buildings, and catches the eye with that iconic red shade we’re all familiar with.
The design utilizes bold shapes and contrast in lieu of small details to ensure that it can be fully understood even if the visitors never leave the train, and is sure to be memorable.
My friend Dannielle Sparks aka @madebydannielle flew into town to assist me for 5 days and this project took a total of 18 days and 200 hours to complete.
